How to repair broken tail boom
--Beenie 07:35, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
Items needed:
- CA De-Bonder – HobbyTown CA Remover LXK299
- Dremel
- Drill
- Drill bits 1/16, 1/8, 9/64, 5/32, 3/16
- Replacement Eflite Boom EFLH1160
- Soldering Iron
- (Optional) Eflite Vertical Tail Support BCP EFLH1118
First off solder the Red and Black power wires that go to your tail motor.
Apply CA debonder around the tail piece and boom. This was quite easy for me. The tail piece came right off.
Once tail has been unsoldered, pull the Power wire through the boom from the front.
Make any repairs to your power wire using heat shrink tube. Now to the difficult part was getting the boom off the chasse. I ended up dremel cutting the damaged boom off. I applied more de-bonder on the cut end.
Drilling
I would start with the 1/8 drill bit and work your way up to bit 3/16. 3/16 is pretty close to the actual size of the boom. You should be able to get it all the way cleaned out with the 3/16 bit.
Apply some CA glue around the end of end of the tail boom and slide it into your chassis. Apply Some CA glue around the rim of the chassis to secure the seal.
