How to uninstall RealFlight from Vista the Manual Way

--Beenie 07:36, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

This guide was given to me by RealFlight Support. I thought it could be useful.

To ensure a complete uninstall and re-install of RealFlight G3, please try this procedure:

Note: You may find it easier to follow these instruction if you print it out for yourself as it involves several steps to complete successfully.
  • (1.) Make sure all your virus scan and system protection/monitoring utilities are disabled before you begin. Norton Antivirus, Norton Utilities, Norton System Works, and Zone Alarm in particular have been known to cause problems with RealFlight on some system when they are running in the background.
  • (2.) Make sure RealFlight itself is not running (or trying to run) and the RealFlight disk is not in your PC.
  • (3.) Double click on your My Computer icon to open it.
  • (4.) Double click on your C: drive to open it.
  • (5.) Double click on your Program Files folder to open it.
  • (6.) Look for the RealFlight folder (you should have only one). Right click over it and select Delete. This should delete the RealFlight folder and ALL its contents.
  • (7.) While you are still looking in your Program Files, look for your Common Files folder and double click on it to open it.
  • (8.) Look for the KnifeEdge folder. Right click over it and select Delete. This should delete the KnifeEdge folder and ALL its contents.
  • (10.) Click your Back button at the top of your browser window until you are back at the beginning of your C:\ drive.
  • (11.) While you are looking at the beginning or root of your C:\ drive, look for your Windows folder and double click on it to open it.

Note: Please use caution when navigating your Windows folder and its contents as this is a very sensitive area of your PC.
  • (12.) Looking in your Windows folder, look for the System32 folder and double click on it to open it.
  • (13.) In your System32 folder, look for a file called "gpsn3.vxp". Make SURE you have successfully located this specific file. Once you have located gpsn3.vxp, right click over this file ONLY and delete it.
Note: ONLY delete the file gpsn3.vxp from your Windows/System32 folder. DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER FILES FROM THIS LOCATION.
  • (14.) Now you can close the My Computer window you have been working in.
  • (15.) Look for the RealFlight shortcut icon on your DeskTop and right click on it and select Delete. This should delete the RealFlight shortcut from your DeskTop.
  • (16.) All the components of you previous RealFlight installation should now be gone from your PC.

Some things to try to get the best experience out of RealFlight G3.5 and Windows Vista.

Note: RealFlight G3 and RealFlight G3.5 were never designed to work in the Vista operating system and we can only offer limited support for RealFlight in Vista.

Please try the following procedure:

  • 1) Restart your computer.
  • 2) Place your mouse pointer over the RealFlight G3 or G3.5 Launcher icon on your DeskTop.
  • 3) Click your RIGHT mouse button one time.
  • 4) On the drop down menu that appears, LEFT click on Properties.
  • 5) A Window will open with several tabs across the top. Left click on the 'Compatibility' tab.
  • 6) At the bottom of the Compatibility window there will be an option that says "Run this program as an Administrator". Click the box next to this to make sure there IS a checkmark there.
  • 7) Click on Apply at the bottom of the page.
  • 8) Press 'OK' at the bottom of the page to close the window.

Now, click on the round Windows symbol at the bottom left of the page. On the List that appears, click on All Programs, then Click on the RealFlight G3 or G3.5 entry. When you click on that, two options will appear below it.

Right click on the option that says RealFlight G3 or G3.5 Launcher and click on the Properties option. Repeat the steps #5 through #8 above to ensure the program is running in Administrative mode.

Now you should see better results with what you are trying to do with the software.
